Why We Matter

Parents and caregivers know their children better than anyone else, and we deserve a seat at the table. Regarding services provided for our youngest people, there is often a missing critical piece: input from parents and caregivers. The Parent Leadership Collaborative, led by parents and caregivers, aims to change that dynamic by reviewing service providers offering early childhood care services, ensuring quality and accountability. By providing training and resources for providers and parents, we empower families to advocate effectively for their children. Together, we can foster a supportive community, drive impactful change, and create a brighter future for all children in Greater New Orleans.

Participating in the Parent Leadership Collaborative helped us to better evaluate how we serve families across New Orleans. Based on this assessment, we accelerated the creation of additional multilingual resources, increased our sensory-friendly programming options, and diversified our community advisory committee to include parents, community partners, and other civic leaders.

Working with the PLC provided an in-depth look into our program's systems, overall environment and services. Having this lens, helped our program to refine and pivot as needed while also validating the best practices we employ. The established rubric used demonstrated that there’s always room for growth and improvement as well as opportunities to increase your program's worth and value to its participants, their respective families and the staff.
